Up for sale, a 1981 Vox V15 tube amplifier in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. A UK-made Vox from the Rose Morris era of production, the V15 is a rarely seen model, and there's a lot to love about this short-lived amp. Designed as the studio-friendly heir apparent to the AC30, but truly more akin to an AC15 in size and output tube compliment, the V15 boasts an EL84 power tubes driving the original pair of Vox-branded Fane 10 ceramic magnet speakers.

Also, given the inherently midrange-y character of Vox amps, it's a small but meaningful thing that the amp has a Mid knob, a feature not commonly seen on a Vox. While both the preamp gain and Master need to be pushed to achieve classic Vox sizzle, the amp absolutely gets there, with a rich, crunchy sound at volumes loud enough to be heard in gigging situations without the dirty looks that often can accompany a cranked AC30 in small venues. And with a treble booster pushing the front end, even more JMI-centric Vox tones can be achieved with ease. The circuit retains the original transformers, and there's a small two-way voltage selector switch tucked behind the power transformer for 120V and 240V operation. The amp is loaded with modern tubes including a pair of matched JJ EL84 power tubes that sound great and have plenty of life.

Both Fane ceramic speakers retain their original cones, with clean black frames and original Vox foil stickers on the magnet covers. The amp has all the classic Vox cosmetic touches, with original black basketweave tolex, two-point plastic corners, plastic SBU handles, raised gold Vox logo, and diamond lattice grillcloth. The tolex is extremely clean and all corners and vents are intact (a small miracle), while the grillcloth shows one missing patch of material on the lower edge. The back panels are also original and, uncharacteristic for Vox, they are bare painted wood without tolex, with the original model info silkscreened in gold on the upper panel. An oft-overlooked vintage UK-made Vox, the V15 is a real gem with EL84 power tubes, compact 2x10 enclosure with original Fane speakers, and a range of tones perfect for the Vox diehard and players looking for a bit more clean headroom than a Vox typically offers.
